Cheney gun accident simulation

On his new blog, The Mechanic & the Muse, Poynter's Chip Scanlan points out a "neat piece of explanatory journalism" on the Web site of the Corpus Christi Caller-Times, which was the first paper to learn of VP Cheney's gun accident.

Chip writes:

A video shot by staffer John Metz shows George Gongora, a staff fotog and self-described "avid skeet and trap shooter, demonstrating what happens when he aims a 0.28 gauge shotgun, "one like the vice-president used," at a paper human target, say, like millionaire lawyer Harry Whittington. His aim is to show the weapon's "perfect" pellet pattern, one favored by quail shooters "because a wall of shot hits the bird."

Over a whistling wind at a local gun club, the 70-second "accident simulation" shows Gongora as he fires at a paper human target 90 feet away. Then we see a closeup of him roaming his hand over the face and upper torso of the paper target. "...At least" over 200 BBs have touched this area," he estimates.

Ouch!
