Student Journalism contest

Gather.com has launched a national scholastic journalism competition. Two journalism students - one graduate student and one undergraduate - will each win a $1,000 scholarship, and. the top 10 contest finalists will win internships at The Huffington Post, either in New York or Los Angeles.

The scholarships will be awarded on Monday, May 15, 2006 to the students who best represent the new age of citizen journalism - and the contest will be judged by Arianna Huffington of The Huffington Post.

All participants must be full-time college or graduate students, and entries should portray a real life, eyewitness account or a personally researched story about a current event (news, politics, sports, etc.). Complete rules of the contest are posted on Gather.com at http://journalism.gather.com.

Gather is a website where informed, engaged people share their thoughts and ideas online with a large community of interested readers. The site was recently featured on the front page of The Boston Globe as well as on
CNBC "Morning Call," WGBH-TV with Emily Rooney, and many other media outlets. One of our largest investors is American Public Media, the second largest distributor of public radio programming and the creators of Garrison Keillor's A Prairie Home Companion, as well as Marketplace, The Writer's Almanac, and 20 other shows you hear regularly on NPR. Jim Manzi, former CEO of Lotus, and Senator Bill Bradley have recently joined the Board of Gather.
