Readers want stock listings back

Dozens of newspapers are slowly reducing or eliminating their stock listings from the print paper, referring readers online instead in an attempt to save newsprint costs. After the Minneapolis Star Tribune did so, about 600 readers contacted the paper to say they were unhappy.

"The reality is that more and more people are searching for that information online because it's more current and it's more detailed on the Web than it is in print," said Duchesne Drew, assistant managing editor for business. "There comes a time when devoting that much space to stock and fund listings doesn't make sense. For us, that time came this week. For other papers, including the New York Times, the Los Angeles Times and the Chicago Tribune, the change came weeks or months ago."
