Revkin the singing journalist
The Times's Andrew C. Revkin is a musician when he's not reporting. In tihs video, he discusses the inspiration of a song about Arlington Cemetery that he wrote for his blues-roots band.
Revkin tells CyberJournalist.net:
Back before memorial day, a Times Web video producer / shooter, Craig Duff (who also created our great Discovery-Times documentary "Arctic Rush") said he wanted to do a Web video around my song about Arlington, and the sad fact that the national cemetery is slowly running out of room....He went to arlington and shot some astonishing images, then -- when i was in DC on assignment -- shot me doing a rather quirky standup describing the songwriting process, and how ballads of old were just a step removed from journalism, etc...
