'Join the CarmelStar reporting team'
The Indianapolis Star is seeking contributions from its readers for its coverage of Carmel. "Join the CarmelStar reporting team," the site says. "You can help our reporters and photographers tell Carmel's story by submitting your own stories and photos about life and happenings in Carmel. We're looking for news about schools, neighborhoods, business, things to do, community events and more."
The site offers these tips on submissions:
* Keep it timely. If you're submitting a story or photo about an event, get it to us within a day or two.
* When writing a story, be sure you are using your own words. Use quote marks and attribution whenever using someone else's words.
* When taking pictures, try to capture the moment without asking people to pose for the camera.
* Tell us who is in the photo and make it clear (left-to-right or clockwise) who is who.
* Be accurate and complete in your information. Make sure you are spelling names correctly and that you are fully describing the event, including the date and location. The "Five Ws" of journalism are Who, What, Where, When and Why. If you answer all five questions, you have a complete news story.
* A community news story is not the place to write your opinions. We have letters to the editor and message boards for that.
* Please provide your name and contact information. We won't publish your phone number, but may need it to contact you.
* Remember, you are writing to other Carmel readers. Tell them why it should matter to them.
