The Ottawa Citizen: The Underground Railroad
This summer, the Ottawa Citizen sent a reporter, Chris Lackner, to walk an approximate route of the Underground Railroad, from May's Lick, Kentucky, to North Buxton, Ontario -- about 500 miles.
He blogged his journey on the website, which also offered readers an interactive journey of the Underground Railroad (in which readers could choose their own route to freedom through Flash graphics, music and sound effects), a chapter a day from the controversial 19th-century novel Uncle Tom's Cabin, "coded" songs that slaves used to navigate their way north, biographies of key people, Flash graphics that show routes of the Underground Railroad, bonus stories and extensive photo galleries of all the towns through which Chris will trek.
