1 comments about 'Digital Edge Award winners'I'm concerned. I really am. I haven't taken the time to peruse the other winners, but am personally familiar with Statesman.com, the online component of the Austin American-Statesman, and it deserves no awards for its design and architecture. The content is less than engaging; the format is non-descript; the multimedia functions are difficult to navigate; there are few places available for reader comment; their bloggers are disconnected from the larger Austin blogging community; few visit the site. The Statesman does not engage the reader/viewer/blogger/watcher/commentor.
In my humble opinion, it is very telling that Statesman.com is winning awards yet failing to attract followers. In short, Statesman.com has missed the point with their website and should be disqualified. No matter how clean and pretty it looks, it doesn’t get the job done.
