Orlando Sentinel's new A.M. news team
The Orlando Sentinel has created a new "A.M. news teamh" -- a group of reporters, visual journalists, editors and Web producers whose job it is to update OrlandoSentinel.com early in the morning and throughout the day.
The paper created the team by shifting schedules and changing a few jobs.
"For a paper our size, this is a significant commitment of resources to Web publication -- specifically targeting the morning timeframe when most newsrooms are somnolent but Web sites are seeing their highest traffic of the day," Anthony Moor, the papers AME/Online, tells CyberJournalist.net. "We're also ramping up video coverage to be more competitive with TV sites."
In a note on one of the sites' blogs, Senior Editor John Cutter adds, "Besides letting you know about breaking news, we also plan to do more of the things that make a Web site different from the printed paper -- more video, audio and different types of story-telling. (It's not crime, but one example is how we covered Tuesday's cold spell. Find some of the multimedia here. It's just a taste of what you will see a lot more in coming weeks and months.
Anyone who pays passing attention to journalism knows we are not alone in changing how we cover news on the Web. We all know many of you expect to find the latest info about news online, and expect to interact with us through blogs, messages boards, and e-mail."
