Newspapers lead way in local video online

Huh?

That's right, a new report from Borrell Associates finds that newspapers are leading the way in local online video advertising, with $81 million, mainly in video classifieds, as compared with $32 million for local TV broadcasters.

"Print media are using the Internet as a crossover platform to tap traditional TV advertisers, just as TV stations (and others) are trying to use the Internet to tap traditional print advertisers."

There's lots of money to be had: Borrell says this sector is on track to hit $5 billion in five years and will account for more than one-third of local online advertising.

And even more interesting is that Borrell says most of that money won't be in pre-roll advertising, but in "long-form video information that their Web site visitors actually choose to see."

Local TV better get cracking....if they don't own local video online, what will they own?
