Atlanta Journal-Constitution shifts focus to digital news
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution is planning a major shifting of resources, including cutting its circulation area, offer buyouts to 80 newsroom employees and restructure its newsroom to shift more resources to digital platforms.
The newsroom will be reorganized to produce stronger daily coverage and enterprise stories in print, including more investigative reporting, Wallace said. The AJC will organize its newsroom into four new units. Two will focus on news gathering -- one for enterprise and the other for daily news -- while two more will handle print and digital news products. "It puts print and digital on equal footing," Wallace said.
It isn't clear how many staffers could shift from primarily print work to digital. AJC Editor Julia Wallace said staffers throughout the newsroom will be asked to reapply for jobs after new plans are set.
Here's an internal memo about the changes.
