Proof readers want what they say they don't

The Boston Globe got lots of complaints on Boston.com about running the news of Tom Brady's soon-to-be illegitimate child on the paper's front page. Meanwhile, of course, the story quickly became the most emailed and searched on Boston.com, The Phoenix points out.

One editor use to tell me: "Sure, compared to circulation, the number of callers may be small, but just imagine how many readers were upset but never bothered to call."

So much for that theory.

(Plus how many at-a-boys does a ombudsman ever hear anyway.)
