Nearly 25% Of Newspaper Visits Driven By Search

Nearly a quarter of the traffic newspaper Web sites are getting comes through search engines, according to a new Hitwise report.

The Hitwise report also found that news consumption is beginning to fragment, with the share of visits to the top 10 News and Media Web sites (which include newspapers like The New York Times) declining by almost 4%.

I'm managing online circulation and audience in a major french Newspaper, let me clarify a few things.
25% is quite low compared to pure players, but what is really interesting is to know the following: under these 25% we have at least 30% users coming by just typing the name of our brand!

Which means that newspapers take a huge benefit of their popularity. Only a few pure players can have such results because they get their most of the traffic from SEO expertise. Only problem this, is not the way to get qualified traffic.

People in Online media are just discovering that having more than 50% of traffic from search engines isn't a good signal. It means you failed to build a powerful brand.
Just my two cents...
