Everyone talks about marrying old and new media, but no one has tied the knot quite like Scott Walker, assistant managinging editor of the Birmingham (Alabama) News. As a personal project, Walker retrofitted an old newspaper vending box to contain an LCD monitor that displays a slideshow of the latest headlines. "Sure, I could get the news on my desktop computer or iPhone (yeah, I wish!), but as a newspaper editor, I've got a soft spot for tradition," Walker says. And he supplies DIY instructions so you can try this at home.
