As more Americans have learned about the Federal Communications Commission’s plans to loosen media cross-ownership restrictions, oppositini has increased sharply, according to a poll by the Pew Research Center for the People & the Press. Overall, half of those surveyed say the FCC decision would have a negative impact on the country, up from 34% in February. Just 10% believe the effect of the rules change will be positive. Plus, 7 in 10 in the new poll said they think news organizations are often influenced by powerful people and organizations.
Meanwhile, about 75 general managers from stations owned by the big four networks are heading to Capitol Hill Wednesday to convince lawmakers to oppose any effort to gut the new FCC rules.
