Here are the 2005 SAJA Journalism Award winners in the new media categories, presented by the South Asian Journalists Association for excellence in reporting about South Asia, as well as outstanding reporting by South Asian journalists and students in the U.S. and Canada.


Here are the 2005 SAJA Journalism Award winners in the new media categories, presented by the South Asian Journalists Association for excellence in reporting about South Asia, as well as outstanding reporting by South Asian journalists and students in the U.S. and Canada:

Outstanding story on South Asia New Media
1. Sachi Cunningham & Jigar Mehta, Frontline/World, PBS.org, for “Road to Peace.” A multimedia report on efforts to bring peace to Kashmir. Note: Cunningham and Mehta were second-year students at the UC Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism when they worked on this project.
2. Leela Jacinto, ABCNews.com, for “Giving Up the Gun in Afghanistan.” A look at the role of warlords in Afghanistan’s recovery. This is Jacinto’s fifth SAJA Award.
3. David Basco, Slate, for “Dispatches from Afghanistan.” A series of reports from Afghanistan look at the rebuilding efforts there.
