Strom Thurmond’s premature death

June 10, 2003 · Filed Under Cyber Slip-Ups

Former U.S. Senator Strom Thurmond joins the growing crowd of distinguished politicians and celebrities who have been prematurely killed off online. Savvy Fark.com Net watchers found his obituary package on the web site of South Carolina’s largest newspaper, The State — preserved here by TheSmokingGun.com.

Earlier this year, obituaries for Vice President Dick Cheney, Ronald Reagan, Fidel Castro, Bob Hope, Pope John Paul II, and Nelson Mandela were found on CNN.com.

Reagan died last year, too, thanks to Scripps Howard. As did Dutch Prince Claus.
