Using Google Maps on news stories

A few examples of how news sites are using Google Maps:

• The Times Herald-Record in Middletown, N.Y., used Google Maps to show where a bear attacked a camper.

• The Lawrence Journal-World uses Google Maps to illustrate entertainmetn venue locations.

• The News & Observer added a module the newsobserver.com home page that uses Gas Buddy data and Google maps to spotlight the lowest of the low prices in the area.

• The News & Observer is also using Google Maps to display live traffic data.

• The Times Herald-Record in Middletown, N.Y., is also using Google Maps to display gas prices.
But that’s only the beginning of what’s possible. Imagine a news site in which stories are geo-coded and displayed online on a map, so that users can find news stories near them geographically and zoom in or click for more info.
