What social media managers do

Many news organizations and businesses are adding social media managers to their staff. Mark Luckie of 10,000 Words asked 6 of them to talk about their positions and responsibilities.

“My role as social media editor is to find new ways to reach and engage with readers and to help them interact with our content beyond Stuff.co.nz and other Fairfax Media websites,” says Greer McDonald, Social Media Editor, Stuff.co.nz. “ It’s about humanizing the brand, allowing readers to feel like they are not just receiving the news, but also have the ability to respond to us, engage with us. Half of the job is about educating people about what social media is!”
